There is a question that shows up around two in the morning, and it does its best work in the dark.
Who am I to write this?
Someone smarter has already said it better. Someone with more letters after their name, a bigger platform, a cleaner past. Next to them you feel like a kid who wandered onto the wrong stage. So you close the laptop. Not forever. Just until you are more qualified. And more qualified never quite arrives.
I want to sit with that question honestly, because it is not silly and it will not be argued away with a pep talk.
Here is the first thing to see. The voice asking who are you to write this is not the voice of humility. Real humility gets to work. This voice keeps you frozen and calls it modesty. It is fear wearing a Sunday coat.
And here is the deeper thing. You have the qualification question exactly backwards.
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. (1 Corinthians 1:27, BSB)
Read that slowly. He did not settle for the weak because the strong were busy. He chose them. On purpose. The pattern runs from cover to cover: a shepherd boy, a stutterer, a teenager, a handful of fishermen. Not one of them felt ready. That was never the point.
Because if the strong and the polished did all the Kingdom work, everyone watching would credit the strength and the polish. When the unlikely person does it, there is only one place for the credit to go. Your sense of being unqualified is not a bug in the plan. It is close to the whole design.
So the question who am I to write this has an answer, and it is not the one shame keeps handing you. Who are you? You are exactly the kind of person He has always picked. Ordinary. Aware of your own cracks. Which means when the light gets through, nobody will mistake it for you.
You do not have to feel qualified to begin. You never will, and that is fine. The feeling is not a gate. It is just weather.
So do not wait for the two a.m. voice to grant you a permission it does not have. Open the page and write one honest paragraph about why this book will not leave you alone.
The One who put it in you already answered the question. You are the one He chose.
